An applicant is any student or professional who is looking for a university, research institute or company to continue education, find an internship, visit labs and more. In Academentory the applicants will find professors, scientists, and administrators that advertise their open positions by running “Position search”. At the same time, professors will be able to discover applicants by running “Student search” in their menu. Students can apply for positions, answer position specific questions during the application, and exchange direct messages with professors.
It is highly recommended to a professor or administrator to complete his or her profile. This information is used by applicants in their search and AI algorithms that match students and positions. Many studies conclude that incomplete profiles do not attract enough attention. Complete applications have much better chances to be discovered during the positions search process. Even if a professor with a complete profile and position description is not a good fit for a certain applicant, it is not rare that students forward such positions to their friends and classmates who might be interested.
How to start:
1. If you do not have an account with Academentory, open Academentory.com, click “I’m a professor” and then sign up. You will receive a verification email and the Academentory will verify your academic employment. Due to security and privacy reasons only verified professors will be able to see student profiles. It is always helpful to use your academic email address. After verifying it, you will need to login with your email and password.
2. In “My Positions” click “Create new position”. After you complete adding the information, click “Publish” in order to make it searchable. In addition to the predefined questions, professors can add their own questions. After completing everything, click “Save updates” at the bottom of the page.
3. Professors can search for students by clicking “Search” in the upper right corner menu. Students that agree to be searchable by professors (option in Settings) can be found with and without changing search criteria.
4. Students that have applied for a position can exchange messages with the position owner (i.e., professors or school administrators). Click “Applications” in the upper right corner under your name and open a page of applications to your positions. In addition to the text messages you can also send files by clicking a paper clip icon. Responses from students will appear on the same page.
5. Notifications of responses will appear on the bell icon in the upper right corner. Professors and administrators may indicate that they are interested in students even if they do not submit an application by clicking “Interested” in the student’s profile.
